Last week, the Reserve Bank of India introduced a new banknote of Rs.200 denomination.
As per the notification issued on Aug 24, 2017, RBI has stated that the base colour of the new currency note of Rs.200 is Bright Yellow. And, as a measure to depict India's vast cultural heritage, the note has a motif of 'Sanchi Stupa' on the reverse side.
Issued under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, this new note bears the signature of the present RBI Governor Dr. Urijit R. Patel.
The salient features of this new Rs.200 currency note are detailed below.
A. Dimensions
The size of the banknote is 66 mm x 146 mm.
B. Salient features on the Obverse (Front)
1. There is a see-through register, with the denominational numeral of 200.
2. In addition, there is latent image with the denominational numeral of 200.
3. The banknote has denominational numeral २०० in Devnagari too.
4. Centre of the banknote depicts the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
5. It carries micro letters ‘RBI’, ‘भारत’, ‘INDIA’ and ‘200’.
6. You will also find a windowed demetalised security thread, with inscriptions ‘भारत’ and 'RBI'. Plus, there is a colour shift... when you tilt the note the thread changes from green to blue.
7. Towards the right of the Mahatma Gandhi's portrait, is the Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and the RBI emblem.
8. On the bottom right of the note is the denominational numeral with Rupee Symbol ₹ 200 in colour changing ink... from green to blue.
9. The right end of the note features the Ashoka Pillar emblem.
10. Another aspect of the Rs.200 banknote, are the watermarks of Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (200).
11. The number panel — with numerals growing from small to big — features on (i) the top left side and (ii) bottom right side.
C. Salient features on the Reverse (Back)
12. On the left side of the note, you will find the Year of printing.
13. Left bottom of the note depicts the Swachh Bharat logo with slogan.
14. Language panel features in the centre of the note.
15. Next to the language panel, the motif of 'Sanchi Stupa' is printed.
16. On the reverse side too, there is the denominational numeral २०० in Devnagari.
D. Features for the visually impaired persons
- Intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait and Ashoka Pillar emblem
- Raised Identification mark H with micro-text ₹ 200
- Four angular bleed lines — with two circles in between the lines — feature both on the right and left sides
